Welcome to Middle School English for 6th and 7th grade!
The Middle School Program at Kensington Woods hits three categories of skills. Because the program is integrated across the curriculum where possible, teachers have an "all hands on deck" attitude about middle school education, while also providing focus in their subject. Middle School English students work on the following skills:
English Language Arts: In English class, students practice the essential English skills of reading, writing, speaking, and listening, by reading engaging novels and participating in relevant in-class and cross-curricular projects. Examples of projects include mock trials, model U.N., and cowboy poetry.
21st Century Skills: In regular classes, Advisory, and special sessions (such as Tech Boot Camp), students develop 21st century skills, such as critical thinking, collaboration, tech literacy, and productivity. In addition, students work on STEAM-integrated projects across the curriculum. (STEAM = Science, Technology, Engineering, Art/Design, and Math) Project examples include the Civil War Battle Reenactment and Trash Town.
Character Development: Students participate in weekly Advisories in which they learn about and discuss positive habits of mind and how to practice good citizenship. Projects such as Day of Service and Trash Town reinforce character lessons.
